Merri Merri re-imagines a modest Edwardian weatherboard house for a young family, transforming a dark, inward-looking dwelling into a calm, light-filled home. The design retains the original front rooms and replaces a tired lean-to with a compact two-storey addition that feels generous and connected to the garden.

Inside, spaces shift in scale and mood — a lofty dining area opens to the north, while a more intimate living space anchors family life. Brick blade walls introduce order and rhythm, framing views and defining thresholds, while ceiling heights and light play shape the atmosphere of each room.

Materiality was a focus from the outset. Recycled cream bricks, timber, and textured surfaces bring warmth and tactility, grounding the home in its place. The result is a house that balances restraint and richness — designed for family life, for changing seasons, and for the quiet rituals of everyday living.
